BRIGHTEX CPLR™ SYSTEM
Traditional lightning protection systems create conducting pathways and employ suppression systems to minimize the damage from a lightning strike. A strong lightning electro-magnetic pulse created by a strike has the potential to damage electronic devices and information networks and any sparks created by lightning can pose a serious risk to explosive and flammable materials. The Brightex CPLR™ is a unique lightning protection system that reduces the electric potentials created during a lightning storm. This active protection technique lowers the probability of a lightning strike unlike traditional lightning protection.
The Brightex Compound Plasma Lightning Rejection (CPLR) System uses advanced monitoring and lightning protection technology to shield assets inside a protection radius on the ground. The active plasma generator neutralizes charges that could potentially create a conducting pathway for a lightning strike. The Brightex CPLR™ System consists of the Fore Alarm detector, the CPLR, the control panel, and the CPLR tower.
Fore Alarm
The Fore Alarm Unit stands approximately 4 feet tall and mounts on the ground surface within the protection area. The Fore Alarm is a “field mill” device and detects the electric field strength of lightning clouds. This lightning detection monitor integrates with the control panel and the CPLR unit.
As a storm approaches an area, the Fore Alarm detects the storm and monitors the activity from 12 miles away. Once the storm is approximately 1.8 miles from the site, the Fore Alarm activates the CPLR unit to generate high density plasma.
CPLR
The CPLR unit generates high density plasma, disperses the ions to the atmosphere, and mounts to the top of the CPLR tower. The CPLR unit activates when the lightning storm is within 1.8 miles of the tower and creates a lightning protection radius of approximately 820 feet on the ground surface. The CPLR requires a 120V, 60 Hz, single phase power supply.
CPLR Tower
The CPLR tower anchors and positions the CPLR unit in the correct location to maximize the protection radius. The height of the tower depends on the geography and the height and size of the structures within the protection radius.
Control Panel
The control panel mounts to the base of the CPLR Tower and controls and monitors the Fore Alarm and CPLR units.
